WHO IS ELIGIBLE

Individuals

Individuals who are 18 years and older and earned 1 to 30K through W-2 wages, self-employment, Salaries, tips or Other employee wages subject to California withholding  may be eligible to receive a  CALEITC credit up to $243.00.  Individuals who are 19 years of age and older and who earned income below $21,430, through employment, self employment or interest income may also be eligible for federal earned income tax credit up to $1502.  

  1. Individuals and Couples without children

Individuals who are 18 years and older and earned 1 to 30K through employment or self employment may be eligible to receive a  CALEITC credit up to $243.00.  Individuals who are at least 19 years old with earned income below $21,430 for those filing single and $27,380 for spouses filing a joint return may be eligible for the federal earned income credit. Seniors

Are you a working Senior Citizen?  If you are age 65 and older and you earned $30,000 or less through employment, self-employment you may be eligible for CalEITC.  Individuals can get up to $243.  Seniors with  earned income below $21,430 for those filing single and $27,380 for spouses filing a joint return and have investment income below $10,000 may be eligible for the federal earned income credit. The maximum credit for taxpayers with no qualifying children is $1,502.  (Note: This part of the American Rescue Act is for 2020 and 2021 income tax returns only.)

ITIN Holders

California has made it easy for ITIN holders to receive the credits they deserve.  ITIN holders earning 1-75K with children or other dependents may also qualify for CalEitc.  

As of 2020, Individuals may get up to $255.  If you have any children or dependents, you can get more, If you have one child, you can get up to $1626.  Larger families qualify for more! And.  if your child has a Social Security number, you may also qualify for up to $3,600 for children under 6 and $3,000 for children 6-17 per child.

Families

Families who earned 1-30K may qualify for up to $3000.  Combine this with Federal EITC and you could get a 6000 refund! The amount of refund depends on your family size.  CalEitc.  If your children are age 6 or younger by the end of the tax year, you may also qualify for the Young Child Tax Credit.  ITIN holders earning 1-75K with children or other dependents may also qualify for CalEitc.  

 

College Students

Are you over the age of 18, earn less than 30K a year and your parents don’t claim you as a dependent?  You may qualify for CalEITC.  If you are a Full-Time student under age 24 you will not qualify for federal Earned Income Credit. 

 

Self-Employed  

Self employed are eligible for caleitc.  If you made $1-$30K you may qualify for caleitc.  Who is considered self employed?  Do you own your own business or perform contract work?  Do you work for a delivery or ride-share company?  Does the company you work for send you a 1099NEC?  If so, you may qualify for CALEITC.  Even ITIN holders may be eligible for CalEitc.

 

Unemployed

if you earned any money through wages or self-employment throughout 2021, you may qualify for Federal Earned Income Tax Credit, California’s EITC.  If you have Children under the age of 18 you may qualify for Federal Child Tax Credits and If you have children under six, you may also qualify for California’s Young Child Tax Credit. 

 

California Young Child Tax Credit

California introduced the Young Child Tax credit in 2019.  If you earned $1-30K through wages, self-employment or earned interest and have a child under 6 on December 31, 2021, you may also qualify for up to an extra $1000.  Both United States Citizens and ITIN holders are eligible for this credit.  Children must also have a social security number to qualify for this credit.

If you have children under the age of 6, you may qualify for the Young Child Tax Credit. The Young Child Tax Credit gives you up to $1000 credit that may either reduce the amount you owe or give you a larger refund.  If you missed the credit in previous years, you can go back up to four years to claim the credit.  How do you qualify?  You must qualify for CALEITC, your child must be under six years of age on December 31, 2021, your child must have a valid social security number or a valid ITIN number and you must file a California Tax Return.
